Hi guys, i m from Australia i ended up here while googling

I m going to be getting a new gaming comp this christmas or next year

I need some advice on building a bang for bucks gaming PC

my price range is 1500, this is what i think

CPU: E8400 - i will OC it

Graphic card: the 4870 looks nice and not that expensive but i think by the time Christmas the 8800gt price would drop and could get 2 for SLI
I m stuck here

e8500 or e8400 is a great cpu for gaming
but i feel the may be another price drop
because the core 17 lunch is near
and do get the 8800gt
the 4870 is great card and 2 8800gt in sli doesn't isnt an option against the 4870

2 8800GT is the better choice over one 4870.

single more powerful card over many weaker ones. always.

sli/xfire/x2 was and likely will stay a bad option.

^Well that depends. If you are playing at 1920*1080 with high detail then CrossFire/SLI would help quite a bit.

Shadow, you're 100% true. I just dont know any people that play at that resolution. If rhasta is one of them, he might do well with 2x gt setup. If he doesnt have 24" setup like 90% people, my original saying that sli/x2/crapfire is bad, is still true for 22" monitors and below.
