Pc wont boot past password

hi my pc wont boot up it gets to the point where i would normally put in a password then just dies. the screen goes black and the pionter freezes any ideas?

Sorry, my psychic thinking cap isn't working right now. For those of us without psychic powers, perhaps you could list the model numbers of the PC and of ALL parts of the PC, what operating system it is running, whether this started suddenly on its own or was associated with any hardware or software changes you made recently, and so forth.

hi m8 sorry im a bit thick sometimes. its sorted it was a pwoer issue with the hard drive

This sounds like a video driver issue when the system is switching from 2D mode to 3D mode. I would try going into safe mode and deleting the old driver and letting windows select the new one for the system upon reboot. If this doesn't work then you might have an issue with the video card its self.

ah - when the OP adds a post that says "...its sorted it was a [power] issue with the hard drive", that means he's solved the problem.
