I've got a serious problem here with my new home build, and I am at a complete loss.
Here are the hardware pieces:
Asus Maximus II Motherboard
Intel Core Duo E8600
4x 2 GB Corsair Dual Channel DDR2 RAM
MSI R4870 T2D1G OC Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16
2x Seagate Barracuda 500 GB SATA drives
1x LG Blu-ray burner
1x Corair 750 Watt Power Supply

The problems:
I finished assembling the pc and it booted into bios. It then shut down in about a minute or two. I checked the hardware monitoring section and the CPU Pll Voltage was at 3.2 and the FSB Termination voltage at 1.7. Both text rows were in red. I checked on my board though and the cpu pll voltage monitoring light was still green. Anyways, i then set all my voltages to the lowest possible they could go to see if it would boot, and it did but there was no display. Trying to get things working again and restore the bios I accidently moved the jumper cap over from choose which bios to load to choose bios 2. When i moved the cap and started the computer, the fans etc started up buuuut died in a matter of seconds. I moved the jumper cap back to its original spot but the same thing still happens. The pc no longer stays on for more than 2-3 seconds. Ive unplugged everything except for the motherboard...but i still get no start up. Any help or advice would be most excellent!

The CPU is detecting that it is not being given proper cooling and is shutting down to avoid damage?

You might need a newer Bios to play nice with the e8600.

Maybe, but it was running for a few minutes before and now it shuts off in seconds. I dont know what else to do to the cpu tho. The heatsink was properly installed.

@roadrunner
I checked to make sure the bios version supported the e8600 and it did, but i upgraded to the newest one anyways. That made no difference

Yes, the 8-pin connector is in place

Do you have a spare power supply somewhere? Perhaps you have a defective unit. It's rare, but it happens. Make sure you didn't plug a PCI-E connector into the MB :) . It seems to be either the Power Supply, or the Motherboard.

I am worried about the Supply being defective, but I dont have any other supplies to test it with. I also dont know how to explain the issue i saw in the bios earlier with the cpu pll voltage being at 3.2V which is like 100% more than it ever should be and yet the LED lights on the board said it was OK. I'm worried my board might be defective or my power supply or both. I just was wondering if there is a way to tell which it is without having another computer around the house to swap parts for testing.

Actually i have a question. Some of the fans connected from the case connect directly to the power supply and not the mobo. The fact these also shut off too...Is that a sign its probably the Supply?
