Dead pixels

Hello ive had a BenQ 17 inch monitor for about 6 years now with no problems at all. One morning i turned my computer on and noticed an approximately 3 cm long and 1 pixel thin dark blue / black line which was vertical. Since then with subsequent computer shutdowns and restarts this line has grown to no longer be a line but more like a set of blotches of darkness...

Is there anything i can do about this?

my brother's 17" samsung died a few weeks ago, and i bought him this acer

its really nice, the widescreen makes it seem smaller than his old monitor, but i'm not gonna complain... it rivals my samsung 21.6" 216bw [discontinued]..its really bright, so make sure you lower it or your black will look like purples, but it displays the whitest whites ive ever seen in any monitor
