What killed it??

I have seen a lot of commentary on what killed SWG from a lot of
disgrunteled people here.

Thus far nobody has hit the nail on the head.

It was PvP play and the necessity to make everything so balanced that
nobody had an upper hand that ultimatly led to the demise of this game
for so many players.

A few things:

1. Poor community relations
2. Continuous short sighted decisions
3. A combat upgrade which was shaping up to be good, then changed at the
last minute, which made the game unplayable and unfun.
4. They changed people's stuff, especially the stuff worth millions in-game.
5. Introduction of Levels into the system.
6. Screwing characters that aren't full combat templates in terms of
game play.

And a few other things. The reason that no one can nail it is that it's
a summary of decisions and actions, and not just one dumb thing. People
will forgive one dumb thing. After ten dumb things, they get a clue and
leave.

(This is coming from a staunch defender of the devs. Dude, they even
lost me this time.)

Myself as well as Clawhound and I like to think that I am a LOT more
flexible than most when it comes to games. I never sweat the small stuff but
when the small stuff overwhelms you every time you log in, it's time to say
when.

about "What killed it??":

Don't forget all the whining that first led to the removal of TEF, the
base-dropping insanity and finally to the CU then. I think the biggest
problem was that the majority of the people was actually PLAYING the game
and having fun, while the devs were listening to those few guys that whined
on the forums, i.e. some certain correspondents. So finally it is OUR own
fault, cuz we were PLAYING instead of complaining and whining to them devs.

I come to a game to play. I seldon visit forums and the "How TO" web
sites. If I wanted to go through some sory of class for fun and do
homework for fun I would go back to school and study massage therapy
or nude photography or something like that.

I don't pay the kind of money ncessary to play these games... (DSL,
Monthly fees and the investment in time) to have to do a few hours of
reading and homework in the evenings.

That's kind of why I am enjoying my frist few days in WoW. It's
simple, clean, you don't spend half your time doing homework and
running to a spot that ends up being camped when you get there.....

In short, it's a mental diversion instead of a mental exercise!
