Windows 7 internet connection problems

Just upgraded to 7 from XP and can no longer connect to the internet via LAN or WAN. At first, I could get on every other time or so, but that only lasted about a day. I am not sure what I am missing. It seems the issue is from the network information, is I am getting a red x between "multiple networks" and "internet." Any suggestions?

Run through the troubleshooter at the bottom of the window. Could be something like DNS settings...

I have this problem, the only cure I can find is to open
network and sharing Center,
change adaptor settings
Disable adaptor, then re enable it.
Hey presto, up comes networking and internet access.

This is not just limited to one machine or manufacturer.
