I have read several threads about this topic and i am still confused.
I currently have a 4850, and have thought about cf 2 of them
But I also thought about getting a single 4870 1g with ddr5
I like the dual slot design to blow the hot air out of the case.
But in terms of performance i run at 1280x900 to 1600x1050.
my spec's if it helps
gigabyte x48
E8400 3.0g
2x2 1066 ram
corsair 750w
xp pro
20" monitor 2500:1 ratio 1680x1050 res/ 5ms\
wd 16mb 650g 7200rpm

no over clocking yet as i am still waiting for my aftermarket cooler

two 4850's in crossfire would be far faster than a single 4870. two 4850's can keep up with a GTX280, to give you an idea of performance. and especially at that low of a resolution, you won't really need a 4870.
