So I picked up mass effect... and it looks like I won't be able to play it until I figure out a way to fix a problem...

After playing for a while, I started getting texture glitches (blackness in the place of textures...) I exited the game and checked my card temps...

93 degrees C.

Just under hot enough to boil water.

I'm not overclocking the card, I've got the latest drivers, and I have the fan running at 65%...

Help!

System:

Q6600
4gb ram
Asus HD4850

That game can really stress a system.. i have a Q6600 and a 8800GT and when playing that game the system was very very hot (fan speed on 8800GT @ 30% which is stock)

Mass effect uses two cores hence the extra heat.

My 8800GT already reached 97 Degrees C with no problem,i don't really worry because it has 10 years warranty (BFG in Europe)

Make sure you have good airflow on the case.

You can always install a 3rd party cooler on it (Voiding warranty i guess)

If the problem insist you can always speed up the fan or RMA it :D

the 4000 series is always running very hot. It shouldn't be a problem, but if you want to keep your card cool download rivatuner and up the fan speed.

Thanks for the replies, the fix posted for the missing textures worked like a charm...

As for the temps, I upped my fan speed to 75%, and my max temps are down to ~78 C.

I'll probably just order an aftermarket cooler though just to be on the safe side, anyone have any particular recommendations?

yes the Akasa AK-VC03-BLUV Vortexx NEO VGA Cooler is a really good cooler
probably one of (if not) the best on the market, just depends on your case cooling but you can expect anything from 38 to 56 but from reviews it should not go over 60 at a long period of gaming

I knew that the 4000s run just a little hot so thats why I got the 4870. For the 2 slot card. idle is 38C and load is 60C fan is at 30% I too have Mass Effect.
