I have a budget of Rs.13000/- for CPU only i.e i want only processor, MOBO, HDD, RAM, DVD writer & 5.1 channel speakers. I already have 15" monitor, Keyboard & mouse.
The MOBO should be with onboard Graphic Card and should be such that it can be upgraded with putting a graphic card in future.
Secondly, i am not a hardcore gamer & want the computer for my kid who is 8 yrs old.
a CPU is the processor. do you need an operating system too?
I have no idea how much Rs.13000 is, but I assume you are on a tight budget. if its real tight and you need an OS, look for a refurb. I've picked up a complete system minus the screen for $250 in the past, when just the OS would have cost close to $100 is I tried to do it on my own. if its not super tight get an AMD dual core on a 780g or 790gx chipset motherboard. this will offer you the best onboard graphics currently availiable and will be upgradable with the next couple generations of AMD CPUs.
I've found 5.1 speakers to be a bit of a waste for me, but maybe in a smaller room they would shine. for speakers, its just a matter of how much do you want to spend. DVD writer, just get the cheapest you can that has what you want, for me thats SATA, lightscribe isn't much more, but the media is. if its all doable. I'd suggest an LCD monitor, assuming you are using a CRT. I personly found eyestrain to be significantly less. when I went through college, I intntionaly didn't go into the more computer orient facets of engineering because of eyestrain I was getting. as soon as I graduated LCDs started showing up, and now I'm stuck driving a truck.
the CPU is the processor, not the box.do you want 6 speakers in addition to the box, or just output for 6 speaker sound?
in all honesty, there realy isn't anymore advice we can give as we don't know your retail options.
In general a 780g mobo and a cheap dual core AMD CPU should be well on you way to your goal.
Gigabyte has a well featured board, but the don't seam to be worth a damm. maybe Asus or MSI would be a good brand.
decent mobos have 5.1 or better onboard sound.
ram is as cheap as $20 for 2 gigs after rebate here. just get cheap DDR2800 2 sticks of 1 gig, 2 gigs toatal ram. DVD writer, get whatever you want, they are pretty much all the same.
If you need a case and PSU, I suggesgt an Antec with earthwatts 380 for your needs.
