This system'll have an E2200 CPU, 4G RAM, 8x1T SATA drives, 1x250G IDE drive, a hardware RAID card, couple of small addon fans, no optical drive or addon video. For the sake of simplicity let's assume a slight overestimation of 15W for each 1T drive and 10 for the IDE, that comes to 130W total just for the hard drives. What do you think rest of the stuff'll add up to?

HDD use the greatest amount of power during initial spin up at boot or awake from sleep - so even if most HDD use about 15W in use - I would double that initial power spike...

nice server setup

i would say probably a 600 watt would be all right

drives dont use that much juice

let's say they all use 20w thats 160w

it's similar to putting in like a high end graphics card

the psu above is modular too so you can get rid of the cables that you arent going to use like gfx card hookup and extra atx 4 pin

i have a server with an athlon x2 4400, onboard video and with 3 hard drives and i am only using a 430watt psu

300W at the 12V rail would be enough, really... but the selection in that category is pretty scarce and 500-600W quality psus cost only slightly more so get one of those instead...
