Hello, I have read the Intel E2180 multiplier is fixed at 8,?? mine isnt,I read if it is adjustable its a special chip? I did get it bilt from a college professer, well I set multiplier to 10, and FSB and from stock 200 mhz, I went up to 340ghz, I set vcore from a stock rating of1.30V to the factory max of1.5 V, it wont overclock well if you dont add voltage,at least on my GIGABYTE EP43DS3L MOBO, w/ 8GB DDR2 PC6400 CORSAIR 800 MHZ, ..VID CARD HD 4850 512 MB DDR3, OVERCLOCKED 10% ..AND ALSO USE A XFX 8600 ALPHA DOG 512 MB DDR3 STOCK CLOCKS WERE 550 & 400, I took it to 610 & 454.. BEFORE CRASHING, MY CPU @ 340MHZ & I NEED 1.5 VOLTS! I NEVER TRIED THE MAX OF 4000 mhz as I read it can do. I have 200 WATT CPU HEATSINK, VISTA 32 ULTIMATE, A 500 WATT PSU, MY RAM IS 555 18, yet I see optons for 333mhz, 400mhz, AND 266mhz, MY DIVIDER IS 2.0 2.6 3.0 ETC, YET SAYS A, B , or C FOR 266 333 OR 400mhz? I see folks say FSB 1;11;1 WHAT IS THIS? AND HOW to doit ? AND I READ TO NOT UNDERCLOCK THE RAM TO OVERCLOCK THE CPU? IT ALSO SAIDTO LOCK PCI AT 100??WHY?I PEG VISTA RATING EXCEPT ON MY CPU!! ITS 5.7 NOT 5.9 ! THE XFX CARD IS RATED VISTA 5.0 THE HD RADEON 4850 VID CARD IS AT 5.9 STOCK CLOCKED .IT BURNED UP ON ME! SO XFX WAS REUSED, SEEMS TOUGHER BUT LOWER VISTA RATING, WATER LOOKS WAY BETTER ON XFX 8600 CARD , ALSO MY CPU SPEEDS CHANGE BIG TIME WHEN CHECKING CORE O AND CORE 1 BACK AND FORTH EVERY OTHER TIME RATHER THAN 6,000 OR 8,000 ITS 12000 AND 16000 FSB!! BUT NOT ALWAYS ITS LIKE A 3RD CORE POPS IN AND OUT?? WERE THESE 3 OR 4 CORES WITH DISABLED CORES?

It's for an EP35-DS3L but all the Gigabyte Core2 BIOS's are similar.

Then go into the BIOS and change the System Memory Multiplier (or whatever your BIOS calls it) from AUTO to 2.00, 2.00B, or 2.00D - whichever you need to set the Memory Frequency to twice the FSB. Then when you increase the FSB, the memory
clock will rise in step with it.

Download CPU-Z to check your FSB:RAM ratio.

Warning - confusion factor between what the BIOS calls things and what CPUZ calls things. What the BIOS calls "memory frequency" is actually the memory clock. What CPUZ calls "memory frequency" is half the memory clock - DDR2 RAM, remember? It transfers two chunks of data each bus cycle. What you want in CPUZ is a 1:1 FSB:RAM ratio.

Next, until you get your CPU overclock sorted out, leave your video cards running at stock frequencies. Work on one thing at a time.

The E2180 is a dual core CPU.

"IT ALSO SAIDTO LOCK PCI AT 100??WHY?" First, if you do not change it, it will stay at 100 MHz. Why? To avoid the risk of damaging PCI devices, one of which is your video card.

What is a "200 WATT CPU HEATSINK"?

"I NEVER TRIED THE MAX OF 4000 mhz as I read it can do." More correctly, what the CPU may be able to do.

1.5 volts is Intel's recommended maximum core voltage. You need to keep the under load core temps below 70 C.

"ALSO MY CPU SPEEDS CHANGE BIG TIME ...". What you are seeing is SpeedStep kicking in and out. Google "SpeedStep".

Did you do any studying before you started trying to overclock, or did you just jump in and start increasing voltages here and there?
