I have one pci-e x16 slot and one pci-e x1 slot. I am running a Galaxy 512mb 9600GT in the x16 slot. The primary monitor will be connected to that. I understand that the just the first card renders the graphics. Does this mean that it doesn't matter what kind of card I get for the pci-e x1 slot to run the secondary monitors?

XP will support different GPU's with different drivers, although a lot of folks say it's kind of a pain to get it work correctly. Never tried it myself, just going by hear-say.
Vista will support more than 1 card only if they both use the exact same drivers.

Yep...exactly jit. There are plenty of articles about how to do different drivers in XP and get it working, and how to get it to work in Vista as well.

I actually just meant, will it matter if the card I put in the pci-e x1 slot is older? I have just heard that you can have a cheapy in the 2nd slot and it wont affect graphics that much because the first card renders. Is this true?
