I just build a new gaming rig and im having some problems with lock ups. I can get on and surf the net or listen to music (I have not tryed watching a movie) but when i start playing games i can play for about 15 min then it locks up. My motherboard is evga 790i ultra sli, processer is intel qx9650 extreme core, graphics cards evga 9800gx2 x2, hard drives WD velociraptor 300gb x2, ram ocz sli 1800mhz 8gb, case antec 1200 with all option al fans (nothing is overclocked). Once it locks up the video cards are to hot to touch and i think thats my problem so i want to go to liquid cooling but i dont want to spend the money if that wont help so can some one please give me some advise on what to do.

The average between the 4 gpu's is 60c (140f) give or take a degree. thats at idle just turned on. i think that is to hot

After letting it warm up for about 30 min the temps average 75c at idle

Interesting, I can't seem to find a 1700w Ultra x3. Do you have a link to it??
Have you tried running the system with only 1 x 9800gx2??? If it runs fine with just 1 than you probably don't have the sufficient power for the 2nd 9800gx2. I know Ultra x3's had a bad run on quality awhile ago, but I think that was limited to the 500-800w units. Not sure if you have a PSU that is bad or not, but that would be one of the things that I'd check out first.

damn my bad its a 1600w but i have heard of people running two of them on a 1000w psu so i would not think that that would be the prob but i would deffinatly check in to the quality situation

Be sure you have the latest drivers installed because I know people where having trouble with 4 way SLI due to poor driver optimization but if I remember correctly the latest Forceware driver was supposed to have taken care of most of that.
