I was wondering if the new processors are compatible with a standard AM2 motherboard..I have an HP system with an X2 6000 processor..the 7000 and the 7750 actually have lower clock speeds than my current system..Can I pop one of these in? They have an AM2+ socket..would I just be losing some performance if I popped it into my system..or would it work at all?
Considering the Phenom's are compatible with most of the original AM2 boards I would imagine the new Athlon7000 series is as well. You would really need to check with HP for your motherboards compatibility. I don't know why you would be replacing an X2 6000 with one of those, its a waste of money in my opinion. You would be seeing very little performance gains in most tasks, and actually a slight performance drop in a few things.
