I have a phenom 9850 with a thermaltake TR2 R1 cooler and HWmonitor. After playing some games
my TMPIN0 (CPU) went a max of 45c. While the "Core 0,1,2,3" went a max of 57C!, this worries me because 61c is the danger zone of this CPU. Idle is around 35C for both readings.

Which is the correct Temp to read from?

CPUs have temp sensors on each core then one in the middle of the chip. The cores are the hottest parts and by the time the heat from the cores reaches the middle 'CPU sensor' the heat has dissapated throught the other parts of the heatspreader a little so it is perfectly normal for the core tempeatures to be 5-15c higher than the CPU temperature. The 61c spec of your CPU should be read against the central sensor - I.e your 45c reading, so you have nothing to worry about.
