i'd so get that...

i'd sell my "old" 4870 and get the new one... then overclock the sh*t out of it with watercooling... you can only go so far on the 4870s even with volt mods... about 1000 core clock is amazing for volt modding...

I so hope this is true as i'd get it in a heart beat... considering a REAL next gen card isn't right around the corner for a little bit more

I hope not. Seeing as its a tweak of the existing arch simply to enable higher speeds, I wouldn't call it 49xx. 4880 or 4890 would be nice... Let Nvidia have the crappy naming scheme.

I hope they call it the 5870... i mean thats what nvidia did to the 9800 gtx series... which was essentially a rebranded GT... all 9 series are actually... except the 9600 gt... which is on par with a GT... 9 series was an utter joke actually... scratch the 5870 thing :D

so they are going to competition with their own hd4870x2

While this is a good step in improving upon the 4000 series, how often do people upgrade? I'm looking forward to June 2009 and RV870:

That would make a nice upgrade over my current 3870x2.

No, because they won't perform that much faster. Might put them back on top of the GTX260+ however.
