Please help i am stumped

Hello everyone,
My dad and i just built our gaming computers this week. Mine is running fine since i just added a new motherboard and core 2 duo to my machine. My dads was built from scratch and everytthing seemed fine. Then when we were installing xp the computer would randomly shut off. sometimes it was when we very lightly bumped or touched it. Other times randomly. It would always turn back on when we push the button and we finally got xp on. Ist his the psu or something else?? We checked all cords and their all in.

Check the CPU heatsink and fan, if it is happening when it gets nocked, then it could be the HS\F may not be seated properly on the board (if pushpins then they may not be pushed in correctly) and when nocked, it may be shifting slightly and overheating the CPU.

and yes the CPU can overheat within a few seconds if the HS\F is not seated properly.

also when checking the HS\F, if it is moving, then it will be best to re-apply the thermal compound on the CPU.
