First we Update our BIOS and the VGA driver. Then test the card in 3DMark06 with PhysX and without PhysX. And then in SmartFPS we test the Crysis Warhead in 2xAA,4xAA,8xAA,16xQ AA and in 3 resolution with and without PhysX .I want to know your opinion...

Why are there more benchmarks where the gtx280 w/ physx off have higher fps?

Reply to aeiouandxyz

Because in some of resolution the physX may cause on loss of FPS and the numbers of frames will be less than off mode.but altogether useing this technology is better.

Interesting to see a couple of tests dropped down below 30 FPS. All in all, looks like PhysX doesn't affect the frames too much.

How did it look? Hard to see any difference when you get into those high settings. Is PhysX designed to give a more polished look?

i have 2 gtx260 in sli and dedicated a 9600gso for physics which ultimately doesnt help fps at all.

Sorry to burst your bubble, crysis doesn't use physx, it uses it's own home-built physics engine.

How does it do in the old Crysis?

Reply to bobbknight

Crysis uses cpu physx, so it doesn't matter.

yes crysis runs physics only on cpu.

Heya,

So far, it just goes to show, physx was not worth buying a card for and doesn't do hardly anything if you have an extra card to use it with anyways.

I hope you didn't buy this stuff for this test. It was a waste.

The cost of an extra card, power consumption, and slot in your computer is not worth the 0.5 to 3 FPS increase. That is completely pitiful and does not confirm the "this is good technology" statement, but rather the opposite.

Cheers,

I don't know why everyone is getting so worked up over Physx lately, get it through your heads (this is in general, not aimed at anyone), if the game isn't built with support for the Physx engine then a physx processor (be a PPU or an Nvidia GPU) shouldn't do any difference at all.

The only two games I recall worth a damn in the past year that had Physx were GRAW2 and UT3.

In the high resolution some of details would be shown in PhysX Mode.Like snipe of the rocketluncher and snowfall and ... but in low resolution it didnt make any difference .
