-12v Help please!!

Can someone please tell me what the -12v supplys on a motherboard????
just had a glance at speedfan and noticed -16.97v on the -12v supply!! :eek:

Serial port. Port specs say -5V to -25V. Anyway it is probably wrong reading and even if it is right it is within specs. Most likely You don't even use serial port and even don't have actual socket for it on m/b

i don't think the -12V rail is really used by anything anymore. and for it to be that high above the specification, there must be something broken.
