I just tried to put together my first homebuilt pc. Everything seemed to go ok even though the directions on the silverstone case could hav been better. Anyway when I power on the computer there is a green light on the motherboard and when i hit the power button all the fans move for a second. But from here nothing happens?

Possible problems:
1) Missing an HDMI cable so I dont think im correclty hooked up to my monitor but shouldnt the computer be making more noise?
2) On the mother board next to the slot that I plug in the power supply seems to be the blue ribbon wire goes in there but no idea where I plug the other end into. Do i need the blue ribbon cable?

Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated im very desperate :(

Specs:
1000W corsair power
4 gigs ram
hd4870
E8600 processor
samsung dvd basic drive
500 gig harddrive
samsung 24 inch monitor

You didn't list your MB. The blue connection by the power is likely for IDE.

You should also have another 4 pin connector by the CPU. There are TWO power connections on your MB.

Oh ya sorry I have an Intel x48 and sorry so the blue ribbon thing (IDE) is for the power?

Nope, the blue ribbon thing (IDE) carries data to the old type of hard drive.

Like Proximon says, there are TWO power connectors for the motherboard, and you're only using one of them. Look for a 4-6pin connector on the motherboard up near the cpu - and a matching connector from the power supply.

The fans should continue to spin if the 4-8 pin ATX12V connector is not plugged in. Maybe not on all mobos, but some anyway.

Try booting with one stick of RAM.

When you list your specs list the brand and model, preferably with a link to Newegg.

I have tried turning it on with 1 stick of ram and that still does nothing :(

Unplug everything, all drives keyboard mouse etc, except mobo, 1 stick of RAM, VGA, and PSU and boot. See if the fans stay spinning.

Hey someone is now telling me its cause I have the motherboard grounded to the case?

Did you make sure that the right risers are in place between the case and the Mobo?

Can you post some pictures?

That is certainly a possibility. That was why I told you to remove everything and boot. If that fails, then you need to build the minimal setup on a piece of cardboard outside the case and boot it by shorting the PWR SW header pins on the mobo.

This is horrible that seemed to work at first. Anyway what happened was the fans turned on full blast then stopped then they turned back on full blast and stopped again. After shutting it off and unplugging the keyboard i tried to turn it on again, but now the fans dont even turn on at all? Did I just break my comp? The green light is still on on the motherboard

Take every thing out do the minimum build on a piece of card board and see what happens. By minimum build we mean MoBo, CPU, Power Cables, 1 Mem Stick, and VGA card. If that posts attach your CD and hard drive. If you can get into windows setup then shut down and put everyting back together in the case. MAKE SURE YOU USE STANDOFFS TO PUT A SPACE BETWEEN THE MB AND CASE!

Sorry about the caps but it sounds like something is shorted and the standoffs are incredibly important, without them nothing will work and you wil probably fry the MB and possibly other components attached to it.

So fans were spinning before? Local shop?

lol, I wish someone had told me that when I built my first PC from scratch. The case (Xclio coolbox) came with 0 instructions, so I didn't know what these funny little metal nuts were for and I tossed them aside. I fear I might have damaged my MOBO some how.
