Hi all,
Last time I purchased a computer was in 2003, and it was low end E-machines. I am well over due for a new desktop and thought I would post here for any help, suggestions, or anything any of you can give.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc-- Gaming mostly (wow addict, but want the option to play any future game pretty well, due a fair share of surfing also). I will be playing on a 24'' monitor that I plan on purchasing.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included? Want to keep whole system (monitor included) around 2k or less for a mid range system. Will pay more for a significant boost in performance. hopefully that tax and shipping included.
3) Where do you live?-- Ft. wayne, Indiana
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.-- Mobo, Cpu (quad), Video card, Ram (4g), Hard drives (prob try to go raid 0), P.S., Monitor, keyboard, mouse, Case, combo cd-rw / dvd rom, O.S. (vista home premium 64 bit, speakers.
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.--None brand spanking new ftw.
6) Will you be overclocking?-- I would love to, but honestly I'm afraid I would blow the 2000+ by making some stupid error. Thought about buying the parts and seeing if there's some type of company in town that could possible do it for me. Or buying a prebuilt preclocked system with a warranty.
7) What size monitor do you have or plan to have?-- 24'' 1920X1200
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?-- Within the next 3 weeks. Another question I had/worried about buying all components at the same time from newegg, what if 1 crucial peice of my rig gets back ordered or something like that. Like I stated before I have been reading up and learning for the past month and most if not all have given newegg extremly high marks.

This is my newegg wish list.

I'd go with the Intel build but I'm biased. As for the motherboard, I would either save some money by getting the Asus P5N-D which also used the 750i chipset but it is $35 cheaper, or spend a little more and get a 780i. There's an EVG 780i on newegg right now for $189.99 after rebate. I wouldn't buy that card. You can get a GTX 260 for $100 cheaper right here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127361 It's not the 216 core edition, but who cares? It's $100 cheaper! Plus, this one is OCed to 620 MHz putting it much closer to a GTX 280. I'm not familiar with the monitor, but it sounds like a good deal. Razer and Logitech make the best mice and keyboards I'd stick with them. You could save some money by getting 800MHz ram instead of 1066 MHz. I don't think the price/performance ratio is worth it but it's up to you. Get two of these hard drives instead:

$10 more, but you'll get 280 more GB and these are at the top in performance. I'm not sure about the PSU you've chosen but you may want to look at this list to find out which brands are rated as the best:
