LG OR SAMSUNG OR SONY

I use a couple of Pioneer DVD RW drives secondhand (found, dumped) -- one so old it's only a 4x speed.

Suggests that Pioneer are, at least, durable.

I bought 11 Samsung sh-223F....used them for burning DVD videos.....stopped using them after discovering most of the burns to be bad.

Biggiest mistake: I didn't run speed and pif/pie test of the burns to make sure they will play smoothly.

I sold 8 on Craigslist and kept 3 for testing and reading only.

Tried Sony Optiarc 1420 and LG (forgot model, but lightscribe version).
Poor quality burn.

Have to confess, I use average media.

I was able to buy a Pioneer DVR-216D and it burned beautifully.
Had some bad burns, but most of the time, it the test shows quality burn.

It depends what's important to you.
For me, it's burning DVD videos.

From my experience I highly recommend Pioneer. I use Pioneer drives in most machines we build and they are superb.
Also, I can say that I have had an NEC drive in one of my machines at home for three years, it had done countless DVD-rips & burns, never failed, not once.
