Hey,

So I am thinking about getting a Phenom II X3 720 BE. I'll be OCing it.

Right now I am choosing mobos. I have the choice of 780G ($100-120) or 790GX ($160) chipset.

So basically, is the 790GX worth the extra $40-60? I "could" afford it but 'd only want to pay if it makes a huge difference. (I'm pretty low on money)....

BTW, I'm using Canadian dollars.

EDIT: Looking at 780G boards. Help me choose :)

If you're going budget, the 780G is a great choice. It OC's relatively well compared to the 790GX.

The observable differences between the 790GX and the 780G are really small (I helped my friends built two systems based on either platform), not really worth a $60 difference.

Um since ur looking at 780G, im also thinking of getting an AMD setup. ONLY THING IS WHERE TO GET DRIVERS FROM AMD's web site?
MY THREAD: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/256927-30-chipset-drivers#t1807791

BUT, forget about my thread unless if u are really interested.

Back to topic, i prefer the gigabyte coz of 16 GB RAM support while asus has 8 GB BUT TO USE MORE THAN 3 GB ram USE a 64 bit OS. AND ALSO the soundcard in gigabyte model support Blu-ray/HD DVD Full Rate Audio Support and the asus mobo doesn't. MEANWHILE if u go gigabyte get this mobo instead of the one u choose bcoz of free shipping and 2 $ cheaper lol. Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H
LINK: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128335&Tpk=GA-MA78G-DS3H

I see no difference of features.... i think. BTW, the mobo of my choice are none of the above motherboards BUT a cheaper 1 instead(but it will the same with shipping). GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128090

There are differences between this mobo^ and the ones stated above. 1 big feature is solid-capacitors. the 1 i'm choosing has it around the CPU VRM (voltage regulator module) only meanwhile the above mobos have it all over the mobo.

ANYWAYS ALWAYS GET LATEST REVISON OF gigabyte mobos coz the older mobos have no 140W TDP support(does that matter on phenom II? NO only affects high-end Phenom I!but newer= better bcoz of updated bios, etc.)

IF u have any issues with gigabyte mobos go to this forum:
http://forums.tweaktown.com/

and go to gigabyte forums, and post your issue, its the BEST FORUM for telling ur issue. u will know y soon if u face any problem.

BTW, AND ARE U GONNA INSTALL XP or VISTA or BOTH?
