Heya, can someone please advise how to fix my nvidia geforce 7600GT, when i play 3D games the temp on my 2nd GPU ( i have an SLI setup) rises to 107degrees and i get a warning to check my fan and heatsink. I have a monitoring programme which states temperatures at: CPU = 55 GPU1 = 57, GPU2 = 107 (but only when playing games such as UT3)
i have turned the fan up to 100% and cleaned it all out but that did not work.
I heard that i might have to put some thermal paste on the GPU but i thought you should only do that with CPU's? More importantly how do i get to the graphics card chip if i have to apply thermal paste?
Or should i just forget all this nonsense and get myself a new geforce 9800GTX...hehe. Would a single one of those be better than my SLI 7600GT setup? I have 500w PSU so hopefully that will handle the new card if i decided to get one?
umm, i would get a new card. i would recommend a 4850, assuming that the 500W PSU is of good manufacture. And yes, expect it to blow away your current setup. According to Tom's charts, possibly 4x the frames/second.
cheers for advice, yea i was thinkin of a new card too, but will still get my hands dirty on the 7600GT, may aswell see if i can fix it, ill learn something along the way and if a mess it up...then hey, good excuse to get a new and better graphics card.
I've never had a Radeon before, will it be compatible with my Asus M24N SLI mobo?

Yeah, the motherboard doesn't matter as long as it has a pci-express slot.
The only thing I can think of to save your card is to clean any dust out of it, it's probably not worth the trouble to buy a new cooler. To add new thermal paste just take off the heatsink and it's the same procedure you would do for a CPU.
cheers for advice, applied the paste and cleaned everything but the 2nd GPU still overheats, wouldnt be a problem with the mobo giving it more power than it needs would it? If not gonna count me pennies and get 9800GTX+ : )
