Wired router for Xbox 360

I am getting my first laptop (w/ Vista 32 bit, sorry) and need a good wired router. It will be located on the second floor (laptop below on the first floor). The main computer and the Xbox 360 will be wired to TWC ethernet, mainly for better online play for the Xbox, on the second floor. What router would work best for connectivity (and security from neighbors attempting to lock on to the signal, should they feel the need)? I hear some routers have issues with 64 bit OS,s. As the laptop will probably be given a free upgrade to Windows 7, is that going to be a problem for the chosen router?
