Why isn't e6850 working on my machine?

it says e6x00 is supported.

Your board doesn't support the e6850. Note that the website says the board only supports up to 1066MHz FSB. The e6850 runs on a 1333MHz FSB. In general, you need to find a list of specific CPU models that your MB will support, not general statements such as "e6xxx". Intel introduces new "e6xxx" CPUs all the time, many of which won't work on previous MBs without at least a BIOS fix. I'll also note that the e6850 is not an "e6x00" CPU, but rather an "e6x50" CPU.
