Ok, currently I'm running this.
Athlon X2 5600+ 2.8(doesnt o.c. worth a damn)
2x 8800gt sli on gigabyte m55sli-s4
2GB G.Skill ddr2 6400 800Mhz
320 GB Hitachi sata
older 16x dvd burner (ide)
t.v. tuner card
700w Rocketfish psu (not the best but hey it was free and has been stable on my system)

Now I plan on keeping the 8800gt(s) and the hard drive for storage(mp3s movies etc...)
I was thinking about the following upgrades

1. ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

2. Either the q6600 or the e8500 (I know the e8500 is better for gaming but I'm leaning twards the quad)

3. Seagate ST3640323AS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

4. ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134

5. SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 22X DVD-R 16X DVD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 22X DVD±R DVD Burner
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151173

6. G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

7. Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 64-bit
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116488

8. Your suggestion for a t.v. tuner card around the $72 mark (can't go over) that supports Vista 64-bit

Any other thoughts or opinions?

if you plan on getting the quad, you better overclock it, cuz it'll run worse than the dual core if your not using apps that utilize all 4 cores. the quad core is a better choice if you're building this for the future.
