Change raid to esata

Hi I have an Asus M4A785T-M motherboard with 6 sata connections with 3,4,5 and 6 set to 0 or 1. I have connected two esata connectors to 4 and 5 and connected an external drive to 5. The computer does not recognise the external drive and I would like to know how to fix this please.

Did you try to hot-plug it, or was it plugged in at boot?

Does the BIOS recognize the drive, or is it just the OS not recognizing it?
