If cost were not a factor would you rather have a Q9550 or a QX6700? My processor in my system (x3350) died and I need to replace it. I was looking at one of the processors above. Also please fell free to recommend something different for around the $300 mark if you dont like either of the 2 above.

Thanks

Oh and if I overclock it will be mild.

Q9550. It's 45nm and that's a substantial power and clocking improvement over 65nm, regardless of the multiplier unlocking. That extra cache and other tweaks also help instructions-per-clock.

How do you know your X3350 died while other components did not?

Just posted this in another thread as i will assume it is going to feature gaming considering your gfx card.

I tried other components to isolate the processor. It always failed to boot into Vista. I tried my E4300 (that Im using now) and it works. Then I put my X3350 in my server just to test it and then it would not boot either.

Funny thing was I didnt even have it overclocked just running it at stock speed.

It could be that those boards just do not support the chip? Really odd for a processor to just die

No the processor is around a year old and worked in both boards. It is also listed as compatible for both. Believe me its dead. I have seen this happen to others, although its rare, where I work in computer manufacturing and handle thousands of CPUs a year but this is the first time it has ever happened to me. Guess I was due. :p

was the x3350 OEM or Retail. Retails have a 3yr warranty I believe.

It was ES, not a warranty deal

I didnt buy it from anyone, I got it from Intel. Not from a 3rd party but straight from Intel. I wish I was in a position to get another one but Im not at this time.

I worded my response poorly. I ment that towards the OP in the link I provided, not you. You are just a victim of a dead chip.
