I've been running the same 2.4 @ 2.8 for years now. I have 2x36g raptor raid, ati9800, sb audigy. I think it's time to upgrade.

I am no longer keeping up with pc technologies, and need your recommendation on video, mb, and cpu!

I use the computer for browsing, video playback, compiling, and general tasks. I run Ubuntu 8.1 32bit, currently, and plan to stay with this operating system. I don't have many requirements other than I need video that supports dual monitors. I'd also like the ability to upgrade to 4 down the road. I'd like fast program startup and quality video! Don't we all?

Any recommendations?

Thanks,
SS

Almost all graphics cards support dual monitor nowadays. Given what you use it for the graphics card doesn't have to be anything special but since you use Linux go for nVidia as they have decent Linux drivers.
Make sure the motherboard has 2 PCI-E(x16) slots so you can upgrade easily to quad monitor later.

Although I generally prefer AMD CPUs I thing Intel might be best in this situation, but depends on budget really.
