hey sorry for asking (i know people post these threads ALL the time) but i am rebuilding my computer to be a pretty decent gaming machine and to also be able to support CAD software (just starting deign at uni). i am pretty knowledgable about most components however i am stuck on motherboards. i understand the chipsets needed etc. but still i am lost. so far this is what i am looking to have in my new comp:

CPU INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9400
RAM KINGSTON VALUERAM DDR2 2GB PC2-6400 *3 (6GB in total)
HDD Western Digital Special 500GB SATA 7200RPM
GPU ATI HD4870 1GB
POWER Corsair 750W TX Series

could you please suggest a motherboard which will give me best bang for buck?
also any changes you think to the current list.

cheers,
peter

Intel X48, X38, P45 for best performance with C2Q. ATI Crossfire 16 x 2 PCIE 2.0 with the X48, X38. 8 X 2 PCIE 2.0 with P45. If you are interested in AMD and possible SLI configuration, the 790 series is the best they have to offer currently.

RAM should be 2 x 2GB or 4 x 2GB for dual channel support. 4GB or 8GB, but not 6GB.

Vista 64 OS will utalize 4-8GB RAM at ALL times. XP 32 will not.

Good suggestion gkay09. P45 is best and cheap.

Upgrade HD to 640 GB WD. Very little more for larger, faster drive.
