Hello

I am running a Asus P5N32-E SLI motherboard with 2 * 1GB Memory. The memory is Corsair - Twin2X2048-6400C4D. This is SLI ready memory.

I would like to add more memory to the system.
Is it possible for me to add extra memory in the form of 2 * 2GB memory modules? Eg. Corsair - TW2X4G6400C4PRO and keep the existing memory in the machine too, So that I have 6GB total? This memory has the same speed, voltage and CAS latency. It is just twice as big in capacity.
FYI: I have been looking for memory using this list of memory which is recommended by Corsair for the Asus P5N32-E SLI:

Also is there a better choice of chip for me to add to the system when mixing with the original Twin2X2048-6400C4D memory?

Regards,
Mark.

Does this mean it is fine to mix the 1Gb pair in one channel with the other 2Gb pair in the other channel?

Ditto the excellent advice above:

We built an ASUS P35 motherboard last year,
and achieved 3GB with 2 x 1GB + 2 x 512MB Corsair XMS2.

Be sure the matched pairs are in the correct slots
to achieve dual-channel mode.

Also, I haven't confirmed this, but the 2GB DIMMs
should be in the primary slots, and the 1GB DIMMs
in the secondary slots (not the other way around).

Thus, the first "chunk" of RAM seen by the memory controller
will be the first 4GB in dual-channel mode.

Mixing different RAM types/sizes/speeds etc can be problematic. Ideally, you need to add the EXACT same memory that you already have if that is an option. If you have issues, you may need to run only the 4GB kit and find another use for the 2GB kit. The only way to know for sure is to install and test.
