Plan on building a system soon (FINALLY) and would like to know what the current top 5 Intel CPUs were. I know this seems like a lame doofus question. Well, it's because I am lame and a doofus!

Also, what may be released from Intel soon? Anyone know?

My build will primarily be for surfing porn!

Just kidding, it will be for editing video, photoshop and gaming. Just like everyone else here LOL! I don't plan on overclocking, but may want to in the future.

I appreciate your time and help and look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

No need for all that bold!

top 5:
1. i7 965ee
2. i7 940
3. i7 920
4. C2Q QX9770
5. C2Q QX9650

the extreme edition chips are overpriced though and I wouldn't recommend them.

The next big release from Intel are the i5 chips - at stock speeds may give the i7 a real run for the money - but will be zero overclocking due to intergrated PCI e bus on the CPU and dual PLL's

i5 chips? Any details on a release date?

Thanks for the responses guys and I appreciate your time.

i5 won't be out for a while. The best current choice are the i7s.

p1
p2
p3
p4
pd (5)
p6 (core2)

I think rumours has it that i5 should be out in Q3 2009 and they're supposed to be mainstream parts so performance should be below current i7, similar to todays Q9XXX... but who knows...

The chart gives just stock speeds. With the exception of the i7's (completely new architecture) overclocking with a good heatsink will move any chip up at least three positions. But I know that no one here would even think of abusing an Intel CPU in that manner.
