one of my 7600GT's died last week but one of them works fine, bought a 9800GTX+ (comes tomorrow WOOP WOOP!) and was wondering if i could use the two cards in a multi GPU set up ...(not SLI obviously)...for e.g. could the 7600GT act as just a physics card while the 9800GTX takes the reigns?

yes you can use the 7600GT as a physic card. NVIDIA recommends as the minimum a GeForce 7600 for this. With Faster card you will get more benefit on this setup.
