I want to activate two memory chips in my laptop

Hello,
I bought a i gig memory for my laptop, then tried to put the 512 MB memory in the other slot. It isn't working, is that because both memories need to be the same?

at first pls GIVE all data for the RAM : freuqncy i.e. modulus,DDR1/2/3 WHICH ONE?

Check www.crucial.com on that laptop, do their system scan and see what the results are. Either the RAM you got is not compatible (happens at times even if it's the right type of RAM) or your system does not support 1.5 gig of RAM, or you need a BIOS update for the RAM to work properly.
