ok recen'tly i got a bit of spare money and thinking of upgrading my pc.
my pc specs is
processor=am2 5200+
graphic card=msi8800gts 320mb
ram=2 x kingston HyperX 1Gig
Motherboard=Asus m2n32-sli

i played fsx with the scenery set to medium and get the fps around 25-30 and not quite satisfy with it sad.gif .
so i decided to upgrade my pc but not sure which part should i upgrade. i heard that FSX use lots of processor and ram but not graphic card. So im thinking of buying am2 6400+(the highest it can go i think) but not sure if there will be a large improvement for the fps,or maybe buying a Quad core processor, and upgrading my Ram to 4 Gig. or maybe upgrading the graphic card to asus 9800GTX.
i don't know which will be better coz i heard that the 8800gts can perform almost the same as 9800gt graphic card and the processor only being upgrade for about 20% i think. so can anyone help me?

Your motherboard does not support Phenoms, AM2+.
The 9800 GTX is not much better than what you have.
Overclocking your processsor or an AM2+ motherboard plus a Phenom would probably work. Be aware AMD is still selling Phenoms with the B2 revision, which has the TLB bug. Try to get the B3 version.
Intel would be faster, but pricier.

^+1.

You are LIMITED by the CPU, not much so as the GPU. FSX is one of the few games that benefit from a faster CPU than a faster GPU.

You think AMD would update that list now that the 750SB boards are hitting the market.

Also even though FSX is a CPU intense sim, I did see a big benift from going from one video card to Crossfire. Don't know if you would see that with SLi but I would expect you would see some benifits. Auto Generated Sceenery is the killer in FSX and with one card I couldn't even get a smooth frame rate with it set to minumin but with Crossfire I can set it to one step below its max.

ok, i think that i will go for the intel quad processor and new mobo. Should i go for the Q6600 or Q9550 ? and what mobo should i take? maybe a cheaper mobo so that i can get the expensive Q9550 ;|
I don't even know how to overclock the processor

hope u all can help me,or can list the best quad processor and mobo for me?
budget around $400 only

you can get q6600 and decent p45 motherboard for less then $400

ok I came up with list from newegg for you.

Asus p5q-e motherboard ($138.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131296

Q6600 ($180)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819115018

ZerothermNirvana cpu cooler ($50)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835887011

Total=$368.97

I have the same exact cooler and it keeps my q6600@3.4ghz at good temps

25-30 fps in FSX isn't necessarily a bad thing but as Stoner said, AI is the killer. In addition to upgrading the CPU, you should also throw in one more memory module, but since it's so cheap, you might as well get 2 - especially if you're running Vista.

The PT blogs http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/default.aspx have quite a bit of hardware info but that's really old news.

The Avsim forums also have some extensive discussions on hardware if you want to check those out also.

You could also go for GA-EP43-DS3L, Q9550, Sunbeam Core Contact if you have a little more money. Total (87+9)+320+(25+9) at newegg right now. That's $450. You can get the Core Contact later, when you're ready to experiment with overclocking. Without overclocking, the cooler that comes with the Q9550 is good enough.

If you go for the Q6600 alvine recommended, remember to get a cooler. That CPU is OEM and doesn't come with a cooler.

^+1. For the HSF .I personally would take P45 over P43. I would also get a Q6600 and learn how to OC. (Q6600 $190 vs the $320 for Q9550). The Q6600 can easily hit 3.4Ghz+.
