I've never seen it anywhere, but it'd be rad if it existed somewhere in the far reaches of the internet.

I'm looking to make my system into a dual monitor package. My vid card only has a single serial output. I'm strapped for cash, so while I'd like to shell out the cash for a new vid card with dual serial outpot, it's impractical.

What I'm looking for is a serial to USB converter. Something that goes between the male end of my spare monitor's serial cable and one of my hundred billion unused usb ports. Does such a part exist? Is such a part substantially cheaper than a new vid card?

Monitors don't use a serial at all - they use DVI or VGA. Your best bet is a cheap dual output video card.

if you have the pci-e slot and are only interested in the monitors (defenatally not gaming) then this card could get the job done for 22$ after the mail in rebate, and im sure if you looked harder you could find one for even cheaper.

Not looking for a new video card. But I found out that this existed a couple of moments ago: http://sewelldirect.com/USB-to-DVI [...] lution.asp

Thanks anyway

Yes thats one solution. Matrox also have one different kind (splitting one VGA or DVI into multi).

But isn't those are way more expensive than what others suggested?

That costs 6 times more then the video card, and would not be as effective as a video card. If your strapped for cash why on earth would you get that over the video card? Heck why would you ever get that over the video card period?

max res of that vid card that i linked was 2048 x 1536 compared to 1600x1200, and look at the quality of that adapter

Quote :

To use this adapter to view video like from a DVD: Dual Core CPU at 2.0 GHz processor clock needed - The screen's resolution must be set to 800 x 600 with 16-bit color

I'm sorry but i could see no reason to spend so much more money on something so crappy compared to the cheap video card.
