3 sticks of ram vs 6 in triple channel

Hello,
Now I know that 3 sticks of ram are needed to utilize triple channel memory. However I was just wondering if for example 6 1gb sticks would perform better than 3 2gb sticks...or extremely similar if not the same.

Always go with 3 sticks if possible, less strain on the memory controller, and less chance of things going wrong.

3 sticks are faster than 6, all else being equal. I noticed a slight degradation in benchmarks when I went from 6GB to 12GB. The computer is faster feeling due to the increased quantity, but if you can, always go for 3 sticks rather than 6.
