Installed a wd my book edition 1tb external drive via usb connection, succesfully installed software for backing uo etc. Shut system down only to find that when I came to restart the following day it apppears tthe bios is reading the ext drive first as a boot device - consequently the boot process goes no further - turn the drive off and then system will boot up as normal. I can then turn on the drive as if nothing has happened.

So far I have upgraded the bios on the motherboard - a 865pe neo2 board - this had no effect on the problem. Any ideas please.

Is there a way to disable booting from USB devices in the BIOS?

Lucky you. Your system works as advertised. Now go into your BIOS and change the boot order to 'external last' or somesuch. I set cd first, floppy second, then boot drive and last external drives.

Hi Croc,
thanks for the suggestion - it was a combination that I hadn't tried but it also was unsuccessful. The external drive is being read before it gets to the boot selection sequence for some reason. On setting the suggested sequence I did notice that the External drive is nowhere to be found in the choice of drives. Is this significant or not I am not sure.

Regards
