Hello...,

I'm having a tough decision here, since I want to play games in 1600x1200 res with 4AA, which graphic adaptor would have the faster and the best performance? 9800GX2 or GTX 280. I play Crysis Warhead, Assasin Creed, Far Cry 2 and I'm using XP 64bit

Thanks for your help.....

Both cards perform very closely with the 9800GX2 coming out on top more often than not.
The GX2, however, requires the game + drivers to support SLI in order to obtain good results.
As such, I would recommend the GTX 280 assuming it is priced similarly to the 9800GX2.

IMO it is better to invest in the newer high end single GPU rather than the older dual GPU setup. Like outlw was getting at, you will have to muck around with SLI not scaling well for some games where a single 280 will be more consistent throughout.

I always hate to tell people to wait but in Jan NV is supposed to be releasing their die shrunken GT200s. It is win win to wait because you could A - get a newer and better card or B - get a price drop on the current card you are looking at.

You could always get an EVGA 280 now if you can't wait and then use their stepup program to bump up to a 55nm version too.
