I'm aware that manufacturers have reputations and MSI's isn't necessarily the best. However, does anyone have some hands-on experience with their X58 Pro board?
I've seen a lot of people recommending Asus' P6T or Gigabyte's UD5 for Core i7 builds, but I'd like to hear from people with some experience with the MSI board before I make my decision.
Do you want to run SLI (two Nvidia) video cards? If so, then get the MSI Eclipse. I am running the eclips with the Core i-7 D-920 and two MSI GTX 280's in SLI mode and it runs great. The x58 Pro board will do two AMD video cards in cross fire, however, unless you are using a bigger than 21" @ 1650 x 1080 resolution monitor, a single GTX 280, or AMD 4870 both with 1 gig DDR3 V-ram will actually perform better than two cards, based on test results here on Tom's. The Nvidia 295 and AMD 4870 X2 cards will also perform well on the x56 Pro board. I have run 4 MSI motherboards the past 4 years and love them. I think they are great?!
I just set one up with the 2.66 ghz i7 and 6 gig of Corsair memory and it is awesome! Very clean and open board, easy to get to connections, etc. No problems whatsoever during the install, to include Vista SP1.
just some info, they seem to have problems with recognizing more than 10gbs of ram, and im trying to get info about the raid controller cause im not sure its stable. other wise it seems to be a great board, only had to send one out of seven back to newegg.
