Meh. The funny thing is the fact that Nvidia is gutting itself to sell the 260s for what they are selling them for and ATI is making big money on all their cards.

My thoughts about these benchmarks:
ATI is known to have some issues with i7. Try a Q9650 and re-test.
For my money, a pair of 4850's > 4870 or 260 for the same money.
I wish ATI would put out better drivers....

More power to Nvidia though. They need figure it out and get their s__t together. I see nothing but good competition for th enext 12 months between these 2 companies, which is only good for the consumer.

I have to agree that they need to include benchies that have the core2 quads involved. I think, at this point, there won't be much in store for gamers that's why they're doing it.

And to the FANBOY above........ I laugh. People like you, who really are fan boys make my colon itch ! You have the facts in front of you and you're still in denial.............LOL

Yeah, I plan on building an i7 machine in February, waiting for prices to drop, Uncle Sam to pay up, and bugs to be worked out. If Nvidia can refine their GPUs with 55nm process and get the performance above ATI, I willl be probably be switching back to Nvidia.

Currently Im running 2 4850s Xfired, and I cannot complain one bit. I try to keep an open mind but Nvidias constant be-badging of old products, and my mediocre experience with my Striker Extreme (680i) its going to take some convincing numbers for me to switch back to the green team.

SW, go read Anands. Then come back and tell us why we need to cry?

Of course I believed that SUPER known web site with its SUPER known testing teqniques. I always laugh when sites use like cut off of the bars at the end so when one team is 10% ahead it looks like %50 on first glance. That always makes me suspicious.

Also I cant believe Bioshock ran better on nVidia when everywhere else ATI is big leap ahead on that one particularly (I mean A LOT)

So I will go to my corner and cry my eyes of laugh at YOU :D

it doesn't include the HD4870 1GB, but does include different GPUs

doesn''t the catalyst drivers kinda suck? I'm trying to decide between a 4870 x2 or a gtx 260. Also it seems that the 280 gets better performance in most games.

The 280 does win in most games against a single 4870, for alot more money tho.

no im taking about the 4870 x2 not a single 4870. Which would be better, a 4870 x2 or a GeForce GTX 280 SSC in most games?

Reply to magma_saber

the 4870x2 is the best card overall. The 4870 still wins by itself in a few, small amount of games, just like the G280 does against the x2 card. Overall winner in vast majority of games is the x2 tho

wha? The benchmark done here yesterday, the gtx280 beat the 4870x2 in most games.

Reply to magma_saber

The 4870x2 is around 30% faster than a G280. Therell always be a few games where 1 card wins over another, like here http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid [...] ew/?page=2

This shows a 4850 beating the G280. It all depends on which games, and which drivers.

it seems that the gtx280 can beat the 4870x2 if you disable or lower the anti-aliasing.

When you spend upwards of 300$ on a gpu, thats the LAST thing you want. Thats what these cards are for is all the eye candy at most, if not all resolutions
