Ok, so my budget is about 300 bucks. I'm interested to know what card I should get. Should I get the 260 or the 4870? My choice would have been the 260 automatically because it OC much better and I love Nvidia. But now I see that the 4870 supports shader 4.1 and directx 10.1. How useful is this? Or should I get another card besides these two?

GTX 260 is about $250 not 300. I would get GX2 if your budget is $300.

if you have a sli mobo, get one 260now, and later another one when price go down.
