Which would be better for my display at 1680 x 1050, a single card or a xfire/sli setup?

Would it be better to go with one 4850 or two 4830 in xfire?

It all depends on what you are doing, what works for one person won't work for another.

Personally I would probably go with a 4870 based on my usuage.

my guess is 2 4830 would best a 4850 but for that price i would suggest a 4870

also a single card will have fewer problems that 2 cards. 2 cards aren't bad. just many games are hit or miss

i run at 1680x1050 and im happy with my 4850. the performance isn't always impressive, but im blaming that entirely on my antique cpu. (athlon x2 4200+, currently not oc'ed).

I'd go with a 4870

Either a 4850 or a 4870 will serve you fine... but a lot of it depends on your processor... either way i'd go with the 4870

So is Xfire isn't necessarily better for higher resolution.

CPU is a E8500 running at 4 GHZ.
