when i turn on my laptop it will not boot. the lights on the bottons will light and then it will stay in that condition for approx. 3 minites then it turns its self off and back on and it will repeat this for a couple of hours until it boots up. the screnn will have no activity. it will do the same thing with the battery out. ram out and harddrive out. i took it to a local computer shop and they said it was virus related $200.00 and it still is in the same condition. please help. it is a two year old hp

It obviously couldn't be a virus. A virus can't do anything until the OS kernel is loaded. Are you saying that after a couple hours of that cycle it finally boots? If so, does it boot if you power off and back on right away?
