Ok, I've searched for a few hours and can't figure this out. My friend has an XP laptop that connects to a wireless router. He just built a desktop (Vista 64) that has no wireless card, so we need to share the laptop connection with the desktop.
On the laptop:
We enabled ICS on the laptops wireless connection
Set the Ip for that connection to 192.168.0.1
On the deskop:
We set the ip to 192.168.0.2
Set the gateway to 192.168.0.1
Set the DNS to 192.168.0.1
The Desktop has a connection but not to the internet. Diagnosis says there is a DNS error.
Question1: Do we have to configure the LAN connection on the Laptop in any way?
Question 2: An "unidentified network" appeared on the Desktop, is this supposed to happen?
Sorry I don't have the ipconfig printout because we were trying to set this up over AIM
