I want to play games at 1280X1024 resolution.I can't play at more higher resolutions because my monitor is 17".I want to play with everything maxed except anti-aliasing.I want to keep it between 2x-8x depending on the fps.Is Sapphire Radeon 4850 512MB or ASUS Radeon 4850 512MB good enough for this setting? Will Sapphire Radeon 4850 1GB or ASUS Radeon 4850 1GB make the games' fps higher?Which will be best for higher fps with these settings 512MB or 1GB?One more question is it safe to overclock any of these card's?

Yes they are good enough, and no at that resolution you will not see any benefit from 1GB video memory. I would suggest that you get the cheapest HD 4850 with the best cooling solution (dual slot).

It is safe as long as you don't mod it (volt mods, etc).

Yeah, get the 512MB version and save the difference. Get yourself a 22" monitor when you can. It runs at 1680x1050 and there are some pretty good ones under $200.
