Hi,
I was wondering if I could get a sense of direction with respect to motherboards. I currently own the following:
[MB] - ASUS M2N32-SLIDeluxe
[CPU] - AMD Athlon x2 6000+
[GPU] - EVGA GeForce 8000 Ultra (768Mbs DDR3)
[RAM] - Patriot Extreme Performance 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
[PSU] - Thermaltake Black Widow 850W
[ATX] -Thermaltake Armor Series VA8003BWS Black Full Tower Case w/ 25CM Fan
[HDD] -Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB 10000 RPM
16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
I am now currently looking to upgrade my Motherboard. Within the next year, give or take a few months, I will be upgrading my CPU. Taking this into consideration, what are my options.
Budget = Less than $200, with taxes excluded
In case you don't know; newegg.com(best place for to get lost in for computers.) You have an AM2 socket motherboard,so an upgrade would be to search for an AM2+. Go to the computer hardware drop down tab to motherboards, etc. You can either do the guided search, advanced search, or power search(which I prefer.) Asus, MSI, and GIGABYTE are the best brands of motherboards. I would click those brands under power search. You will want to upgrade(match up the memory standards) your ram also. Sort of like buying a Camaro with a 4 cylinder. Your ram will only run at 800 otherwise. You'll want the DDR2 1066(best brands:Corsair, Mushkin, Patriot). Here is what I would get w/ price in mind:[MB]MSI K9A2 Platinum,[CPU]should be able to use yours(MB excepts AM2+/AM2) otherwise;AMD PHENOM 8650,[RAM]CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X4096-8500C5D. Once you have everything picked out, the only thing left to do is to shop around for price, but 95% of the time newegg is cheaper. Hope this helps, GOOD LUCK!!
