I've been reading a few reviews/benchmarks on the 4850 circa June 2008, as well as various posts on these boards, and I've noticed that these cards apparently run really hot. I've seen numbers like 70C-80C idle and +100C gaming.
I have the Asus HD4850 and have OC'd it to 690/1148 via CCC's Autotune, and my temps are 40-43C idle, and ~60C gaming (COD4). Fan is at 65%. I have turned looked at HW Monitor, GPU-Z and CCC (8.10) simultaneously, and they all show the same temps.
Sure, I have a big, spacious case (Antec P182), but can my card be THAT much cooler? I have no aftermarket GPU cooler either. Do my temps seem right to you guys? And maybe some of you with the same card could give your own temps as reference.
PS. my temps before OC'ing were the same, only difference was that my fan was at 50%.
I used to have a case about as big as yours, and I too, had to keep the side open with a regular fan constantly blowing into it. My 6800GT still burnt out 3 times though, but back then I didn't know about monitoring temps, unfortunately.
Yes, but unless stated otherwise a review site will just use stock. They are not looking for any effects of long term use, they may only be getting a loan of the card so unless the card is unstable they won't care.
------------------------------I'm a git, deal with it.
the old stock hsf of the 4850 resembles a frying pan. thankfully most of the distros are phasing them out and replacing them with custom coolers, some of them even has zalmans on it.
