This is my first build and I am having difficulty booting up the system. It starts off that everything takes off as normal for about 1/2 a second and then it goes into automatic shutdown. Afterward it tries to boot again but does the same thing. I've tried swapping out PSUs but the same thing happened. Here are the specs.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 6600
Mobo: Abit IP35 Pro
GFX: EVGA GeForce 8800GTS
Ram: G.Skill DDR2
PSU: OCZ 700W ATX12V

Any advice would be helpful.

Thank you,
Lee

I would reference the bios against the CPU, make sure the bios microcode is up to date.
I would do an out of case build, to be sure your not shorting something.
Also make sure all the needed power connections are proper.

Yup. Elimate the variables- swap the RAM sticks. Take out all the RAM and see if you get the "I got no RAM" beeps. Disconnect your CD Drive(s), Hard Drives, fans, mouse, etc.

Make sure your motherboard supports the quad. Also, try clearing your CMOS (your mobo manual should tell you how to do that.)

Good luck, buying a new build and then having it not boot up really sucks... believe me, I know.

What are the specs on your RAM?

Did you remember to plug in the 8-pin CPU power connector as well as the 24-pin motherboard plug? The CPU connector gets forgotten a lot. Here's a picture of a motherboard similar to yours.

The 8-pin connector is in the lower left of the picture next to a heatsink.
